Those looking for a little bit of color — literally — in their iron game might be tempted by the Command Q irons from Pinemeadow Golf.
The Q logo adds a splash of red to the rear of the clubs and looks smart with the mirror finish. But until someone proves a direct relationship between color and accuracy with a 3-iron, perhaps we should explore the performance features of the irons, too.
The Q product line, which includes a driver and other clubs has a focus on weighting technology. You won’t find movable weights in the Command Q irons, but you will find two embedded weights in the rear of the clubs’ sole: one towards the toe, one towards the heel.
The sole itself is wider than a blade to stop you digging your shots. Combine a wide sole with the rear weights and an undercut cavity and you get a club designed for stability and a higher trajectory. Which is golf speak for making it easier to get your shots out and up and flying in the right direction.
Users praise the clubs forgiveness and distance features. The only downside I can see is if you’re into the very traditional iron look, where you might find the red medallion hard on your eyes. Performance-wise, anyone who’s not a tour pro will like the help with accuracy without all too much sacrifice in terms of shotmaking flexibility.
