Here are six reasons why.

It might seem a little strange to talk about a clone golf brand. When we discuss golf brands, we tend to mean the likes of Callaway or Ping. The whole ethos of clone golf clubs is that they are generic in nature. They don’t have a big name or spend pots of money on advertising, branding and endorsements.

But Acer is a name that bridges the two concepts. Acer’s golf equipment is low-cost, but has been around long enough to gain its own name recognition and reputation.

It’s one of Hireko Golf’s stable of brands and a common feature in any discount golf store, with Acer drivers, fairway woods, irons and putters often making up a big proportion of the total equipment on sale.

But it’s the irons that are perhaps most popular among golfers with an eye for quality at low prices. And the favorite model of the moment are possibly the Acer XP irons.

In their basic form, they’re a cavity-back iron with notched weighting. Which means they’re designed to move the clubhead’s weight out to the edges. That helps stabilize the clubhead and improve forgiveness. So the XP was designed to help out with shot accuracy.

In the meantime, there are numerous XP iron models out on the market, including a Hollow Core model and versions for ladies, better players and those wanting a higher trajectory on their shots.

In other words, Hireko have taken the basic — and popular — model and tweaked it in various ways so there’s an XP alternative for more types of players.

For the record, I bought myself a new pitching wedge last year and got an Acer XP High Trajectory model, with a True Temper steel shaft and Lamkin grip. For a grand total of $21.15. A pretty good deal! Next on the purchase list are some new irons, and it’s a toss up between the XP 905’s and the Power Max GX920.

Stay tuned for future posts on what specific XP irons have to offer.
