They don’t come much bigger guru-wise than Seth Godin. Not in golf. But in online marketing. And the bestselling author just used hybrid golf clubs to make a point about buzzwords in his highly-regarded blog.
Is the hybrid moniker just a buzzword? I’d argue that clubs were using that name well before it became fashionable to talk about hybrid cars, for example.
Hybrid clubs came of ageĀ as a term back in 2004 when Todd Hamilton used one to dramatic effect in beating Ernie Els in the playoff for the British Open. The club in question was the Sonartec Md, which made its first appearance in January, 2004.
But the golf media were using the term way before then. GolfDigest featured hybrids in this March 2001 article, for example.
So is hybrid a buzzword? Maybe, but not a new one when it comes to golf clubs.
