In a previous post I suggested the clubs you might buy as part of your first set. But I just came across an even cheaper alternative from discount golf retailer Pinemeadow Golf.
The NSE7 complete golf set is available for $169, including a bag and headcovers. Now I don’t expect this to be the kind of product that will be the last one you ever buy. No illusions there.
But there are two issues that speak for it.
First, Pinemeadow Golf are a long-established name in golf, with all the service and product guarantees you expect. If you’re interested, you can read an interview with their senior staff from a couple of years ago here.
Second, at $169, this is exactly the right choice for certain golfer scenarios where you really don’t want to fork out much for equipment. For example…
- if you only play now and then for a bit of fun.
- if you want to dip your toe in the waters of golf without risking a large sum of money if you don’t like the game.
- if you want a reserve set in case of emergencies or to take on the road.
Put it another way…a top-brand putter costs more than this set. So if you grow out of it quickly, there’s no harm done.
The set itself consists of a large 460cc driver, two woods, two hybrids, five irons, a pitching wedge and a putter. The woods and hybrids have adjustable weights in them so you can alter the balance of each to fit (or compensate for!) your particular swing idiosyncrasies.
If the NSE7 is really too cheap for you, then I’d recommend custom-building a set out of Pinemeadow’s larger golf clubs range (or that of any other respected clone golf retailer.) That will more than double the price, but it will give you a little more control over the specifications of the clubs you buy.
