Many unusual designs now adorn the driver shelves in golf stores. But square heads and similar are not everybody’s thing. Sometimes you just want to get your hands on a club that performs like a modern driver, but without looking like it stepped out of the nearest space laboratory.
One such driver might be the new GX920 from GigaGolf, a titanium driver with the maximum 460cc of volume in the clubhead (it’s hard to find a modern driver that has less!)
The clone club is part of the wider GX920 range, which includes the bestselling irons. Solid is the word best used to describe it. Flashy it is not, so if you want the “wow” effect, best to leave alone. But if you want the benefits of modern materials without the modern art, then give it due consideration.
The face is a thin beta titanium, which is becoming standard for power drivers that are built for distance. There’s also a carbon composite crown. This lightens the load up top, allowing the makers to shift weight down and thus place the center of gravity where it helps you get height off the tee.
So it’s a nice mix of modern materials, big clubhead and halfway traditional design. A good complement to the rest of the GX920 series.
In terms of price, expect to pay between $90 and $140, depending on how expensive you want your shaft to be. That’s a pretty decent price for a clone packing composite materials. if you’re not sure about movable weights and square clubheads, this might be right up your street.
