All good things come to an end and Pinemeadow’s successful Excel driver looks a little lightweight in today’s market. But the pleasant news is…there is a successor: the Excel Strong.
This one is a modern club for those who shy away from some of the fancier designs like the Mantara or Ozzy Moto. The Excel Strong retains the traditional teardrop shape, but with little modern touches like orange highlights on the sole.
All this is packed in 460cc of volume, so you have no worries about missing out on the larger sweetspots and greater forgiveness of today’s monster drivers.
At the moment, the club only comes in 10 degrees of loft and right-hand only. But expect more options as the season progresses.
The default Aldila graphite shaft or steel Apollo shaft qualify you for the basic $99 price. Grip and shaft upgrades can put that up to over $150, but the basic setup is perfectly adequate (see Pinemeadow Golf for details.) Both shaft brands are recognized in their field.
And for those who like harmony in their golf bag, there’s an Excel Strong fairway wood as well, priced at $49.
